Pikidi Gardens - Bondo Kisumu
Nestled in a tranquil private property by the shores of Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest freshwater lake, Pikidi Gardens - Bondo Kisumu offers you an enchanting experience. Other than the beautiful lake house, there is a camping area with 20 tents for groups and outdoor lovers. This gem is ideal for families, groups as well as solo retreats.
Pikidi Gardens - Bondo Kisumu
The nature-based experience starts with the name PIKIDI, a portmanteau of the words PI and KIDI derived from the local vernacular, the Luo language. PI means water, which is a representation of the lake that almost surrounds us; KIDI means stone or rock, which represents the rocky terrain along the waterfront, and ‘gardens’ represents the greenery that envelopes the ecolodge. Our micro-environment is basically about water, rocks, and greenery and this is the foundation of what we do at PIKIDI.
Relax at the spectacular waterfront lounges or take a walk along the nature trail that snakes through the botanical gardens as you take in the breath-taking vibrant scenery, watch fishermen pass by, climb rocks, hear the chipping birds, watch them dive into the lake to catch fish and if you are lucky, see otters, monitor lizards and hippos swim by. This unspoilt natural environment offers guests an opportunity to truly connect with the surrounding wilderness. PIKIDI is home to over 160 bird species, a sure paradise for birders and ornithologists. List of all the Pikidi birds coming soon.

We often hide from the scorching sun but harness it as much as we can. PIKIDI is 100% on solar energy and is in the process of exploring wind energy to compliment solar. We use solar energy for indoor lighting, security, street lighting, power, water pumping and water heating for bathrooms and kitchens. Moonlight, starlight, candlelight, safari lamps as well as bonfires often become our source of light in the evenings when we serve dinner outdoors. How romantic!

Things to know
Pikidi Gardens - Bondo Kisumu
The sun hits hard in this part of the world but at PIKIDi, the microclimate drastically changes due to the cool breeze from the lake and the extensive shade under a forest of trees. Welcome to PIKIDI botanical gardens! Adorning our gardens is a wide range of mature indigenous trees as well as young medicinal and exotic ones that we keep planting. Our gardens have shrubs and herbs known to repel insects and certain reptiles, making PIKIDI ironically a ‘mosquito free area’. We make a conscious effort to conserve trees and additionally, we are constantly planting more. Watch this space for a list of all the Flora in Pikidi.
